Sail Training International
The organisation behind The Tall Ships Races is Sail Training International (STI), a registered charity with roots in the very first race of Sail Training Tall Ships in 1956. The organisation is based in Gosport, England.
Every country has a local STI organisation. The Swedish STI organisation is the Sail Training Association of Sweden (STAS). The association informs young people in Sweden about opportunities for sailing on Swedish ships, organises the participation of Swedish ships in The Tall Ships Races and coordinates applications from Swedish towns that want to host The Tall Ships Races.
The race series consists of 2-3 race legs and one cruise-in-company. The cruise-in-company gives trainees a chance to change ships, experience new challenges and make new friends. The racing legs are organised by STI.
